How do I choose jewelry for my wedding dress?
Let the gown decide how much work the jewelry has to do. A plain silk slip or a bare neckline leaves room for a statement necklace or a long drop earring. A beaded, lace or high necked gown is already doing that job, so studs or small huggies keep the two from competing. If your veil carries pearl or crystal, echo it rather than mixing the two.
Should I wear pearl, crystal or gold?
Pearl reads soft and traditional and photographs beautifully in daylight. Crystal and lab grown stones throw more light, which suits an evening reception. Gold warms everything and sits especially well against ivory rather than bright white. There is no rule about matching your metal to your ring, and plenty of brides happily do not.
Do you sell matching bridal jewelry sets?
Not boxed as sets, but several of our designers make earrings, a necklace and a bracelet in the same family, so a matched look is easy to build. Tell us the piece you have already chosen and we will show you what sits beside it. Buying separately also means the earrings keep being worn, which is usually what happens.
What will I still wear after the wedding?
Most of it, which is why we buy from independent labels rather than bridal lines. The recycled gold hoops and fine chains, the pearl studs, the hand soldered everyday pieces: these are jewelry that happens to look right at a wedding. The crystal statement earrings are the ones that stay in the box, and they earn their keep on the day.
Can I try on bridal jewelry in Los Angeles?
Some of it, yes. We keep a working selection at 145 Bay St in Santa Monica and will have it out on the table at your appointment, which is the only way to judge how a drop earring moves or how a pearl reads against your own skin.
