Tailored Tulle: hand finished wedding veils, made to order in Portland

Tailored Tulle English Net Drop Veil at Mae Bridal, made to order wedding veil, English net bridal veil, raw edge veil

Tailored Tulle started in 2020 when Katie Valleau, planning her own wedding in Portland, Oregon, spent months looking for a veil that simply did not exist yet. She built the label around that gap, and it is now a studio of women who design and hand sew every piece to order, one at a time, rather than cutting from a standing stock.

What makes a Tailored Tulle veil different

The signature is in the edge work. Tailored Tulle finishes its tulle by hand rather than machine cutting it, which is why the raw edge on an English net veil or a soft drop veil falls against the dress instead of standing away from it stiffly. The same hand finishing carries over to the scarves and lace sleeves, where a seam that is sewn rather than bonded drapes instead of holding a shape. Every piece, veil, cape, scarf or hair accessory, is made once it is ordered rather than pulled from existing stock, since the studio works one piece at a time.

The pieces

English Net Drop Veil

Tailored Tulle English Net Drop Veil at Mae Bridal, made to order wedding veil, English net bridal veil, raw edge veil

English net is a finer, slightly stiffer mesh than standard bridal tulle, and Tailored Tulle's version keeps the raw hand cut edge the fabric is known for. This drop veil falls in a single layer with a gentle flare at the hem, an easy match for a simple gown that does not need competition at the neckline. Shop the English Net Drop Veil, $176.

Full Lace Mantilla Veil

Tailored Tulle Full Lace Mantilla Veil at Mae Bridal, made to order lace veil, mantilla wedding veil, vintage inspired veil

A mantilla veil is edged in lace rather than plain tulle, and this one carries lace across the whole piece instead of just the border, which reads closer to a traditional mantilla than the simpler lace trimmed veils in the rest of the line. It is the most detailed, and the most expensive, veil Tailored Tulle makes. Shop the Full Lace Mantilla Veil, $377.

Bridal Wings

Tailored Tulle Bridal Wings at Mae Bridal, made to order English net cape, cathedral bridal cape, wedding day veil alternative

Bridal wings are a cathedral length cape built from English net rather than a standard veil, meant to be worn down the back of the gown and removed after the ceremony. It is the most dramatic silhouette in the Tailored Tulle line and reads differently in photos than a traditional veil does. Shop the Bridal Wings, $233.

Delicate Lace Bridal Scarf

Tailored Tulle Delicate Lace Bridal Scarf at Mae Bridal, made to order bridal scarf, veil alternative, lace trimmed scarf

A scarf works as a veil alternative for a bride who wants a little softness at the shoulders without the length or weight of a full veil. This one is trimmed in lace along one edge, light enough to wear through a full reception rather than taking off after the ceremony. Shop the Delicate Lace Bridal Scarf, $80.

Pearl Branch Hair Comb

Tailored Tulle Pearl Branch Hair Comb at Mae Bridal, made to order bridal hair comb, pearl wedding hair accessory, updo comb

A branch shaped comb set with small pearls is built to tuck into an updo rather than anchor a veil, so it works on its own or alongside one of the lighter Tailored Tulle veils without doubling up on volume at the back of the head. Shop the Pearl Branch Hair Comb, $62.

Swiss Dot Lace Sleeves

Tailored Tulle Swiss Dot Lace Sleeves at Mae Bridal, made to order detachable sleeves, lace wedding sleeves, bridal gloves alternative

Detachable sleeves in a swiss dot lace give a strapless or sleeveless gown a second look for the ceremony or the colder half of the day, and they come off cleanly for the reception without needing a second outfit change. Shop the Swiss Dot Lace Sleeves, $114.

Tailored Tulle veils, answered

How long does a Tailored Tulle veil take to arrive?

Veils, capes and veil weights run about 4 to 5 weeks to make, plus 5 to 8 business days for US transit once the order ships. Gloves and sleeves run about 3 to 4 weeks, and scarves and hair accessories about 1 to 2 weeks.

Can I return a Tailored Tulle veil?

No. Every Tailored Tulle piece is made to order and final sale, so we are not able to offer a refund, exchange or store credit once it ships. Email us before you order if you want help choosing a length or color.

What is English net, and is it the same as tulle?

English net is a finer, slightly stiffer mesh than standard soft tulle, with a raw edge that Tailored Tulle finishes by hand rather than cutting by machine. It is treated as a tulle fabric on our site, just a firmer version of it.

Can I rush a Tailored Tulle order?

Rush production is accepted on request, though it is not a priced or guaranteed option. Email us as soon as you can if your timeline is tight and we will ask on your behalf.
