Two things live here, and both are for the days around a wedding rather than the ceremony itself. The resort half: knit shorts and flared trousers, a bandeau top, a feather-trimmed chiffon blouse, worked between Los Angeles and Istanbul for the welcome party and the week after. The bridal half: a silk organza bodice and skirt, a San Gallo organdy shirt and tie waist ruffled trouser handmade in Spain, silk skirts with a thigh high slit, and beaded tulle capelets and capes. The pieces a bride builds a two piece look out of, and keeps wearing long after.
Some ready to wear, some cut to order by the designer. Put pieces together with us in Santa Monica, or on a live virtual fitting, and we will be honest about which ones want each other. For the bridal separates on their own, see bridal separates.
Separates at Mae Bridal, answered
Can I wear these pieces to a wedding?
Some are made for exactly that and some are not. The organza and organdy pieces, the silk skirts and the beaded capelets are bridal separates and read as wedding clothes. The knits, the shorts and the chiffon blouses are resort pieces for the welcome party, the beach day and the morning after. Each piece makes clear which it is.
Why buy separates instead of a dress?
Fit and afterlife. Two pieces let you size the top and the bottom independently, which almost no single dress does well, and a silk skirt or a good trouser keeps being worn long after the event it was bought for. For a bride it also means more than one look out of one purchase.
Are these pieces sold as sets?
Everything here is bought individually, even where two pieces were designed to go together. That is deliberate. Tell us what you already have or what you are drawn to and we will tell you what pairs with it rather than selling you a set you only half want.
What should I wear to the rehearsal dinner or welcome party?
This is the page for it, and separates are the honest answer: a white organdy trouser with a simple top, or a knit set that travels well. It reads as considered rather than as a second wedding dress, and nothing here is so bridal that you could never wear it again.
Can I try these on in Los Angeles?
Some of it. The bridal separates are mostly cut to order and we hold samples of several at 145 Bay St in Santa Monica; the resort knits and blouses more often come from the designer than sit in Los Angeles. Name them beforehand and we will say plainly which is which. Book a private fitting, or read how to dress for the whole wedding weekend.
