Shebobo is a San Francisco house founded in 2011 by Kirsten Schipper, with every piece hand woven by artisans in Madagascar. Mae Bridal carries the raffia bags and sun hats, the kind of pieces that make sense for a honeymoon or a destination wedding and keep making sense once you are home.
Below is our pick of the Shebobo pieces now available at Mae Bridal, our Los Angeles bridal boutique.
What makes a Shebobo raffia piece different
Every Shebobo piece starts as raw raffia straw, hand woven or crocheted by artisans in Madagascar rather than machine made, which is why no two pieces are ever quite identical. The house works mostly in natural, cream and warm neutral tones, with the occasional stripe or embroidered detail, built to go from the beach to a rehearsal dinner without changing bags.
The bags and hats
Florence crochet basket handbag
Florence is a crochet raffia basket bag finished with a flower detail at the front, sold in six colors from natural straw to a deep umberwine. Shop the Florence basket bag, $198.
Monte Carlo beach bag
Monte Carlo is the house's largest tote, finished with a dreamcatcher tassel charm at the strap, sold in three sizes and three colors so it can double as the one real beach bag of the trip. Shop the Monte Carlo beach bag, from $90.
Karin wide brim sun hat
Karin is a 7 inch wide brim hat in macrame and crochet raffia, finished with a raw fringe edge, built for full sun rather than a quick walk to the car. Shop the Karin sun hat, $80.
Gigi embroidered sun hat
Gigi is a smaller 5.5 inch brim, crocheted and finished with embroidered flowers, sold in natural and tobacco. Shop the Gigi sun hat, $105.
Coco envelope clutch
Coco is an envelope clutch in crochet raffia with a raw fringe trim, small enough for a rehearsal dinner and sold in natural or a confetti multicolor. Shop the Coco clutch, $73.
Shelly seashell crossbody bag
Shelly is a crossbody bag finished with a seashell detail, built for a beach wedding or a honeymoon day trip where a clutch would not be practical. Shop the Shelly crossbody bag, $155.
Shop Shebobo at our Los Angeles bridal boutique
Shebobo pieces ship directly from the designer, available at Mae Bridal. We are the stockist, not the maker, and because each piece is hand woven, small variations in the raffia are normal rather than a flaw. Many Shebobo pieces are final sale, so email us before you order if you are deciding between colors or sizes.
