Paradigm Design is the jewelry label of designer Meg Sullivan, who works out of a studio in Long Beach, California. Sullivan describes her creative direction as drawn from long days in the sun, road trips up the coast and nights under the desert sky, and the jewelry reads that way: warm, easy and quietly modern rather than precious or formal. Mae Bridal carries her pearl and shell pieces, the kind of jewelry built to wear well past the wedding day.
Below is our pick of the Paradigm Design necklaces and earrings now available to order through Mae Bridal, our Santa Monica bridal boutique.
What makes Paradigm Design jewelry different
Every piece is cut by hand from 14k gold filled or sterling silver wire and sheet, then soldered, formed and polished in house by a small team of metalsmiths. Nothing is mass produced, each order is made rather than pulled from existing stock. Gold filled is the house metal for a practical reason: it carries far more actual gold than plating and holds up to water and daily wear, which matters on a honeymoon as much as a wedding day.
Mother of pearl, abalone and freshwater pearl accents give the bridal pieces their soft luster, worked into simple stacking shapes rather than anything ornate. The result sits closer to something you would already own than something built for one day only.
The pieces
Pearl bolo necklace
A single pearl drops along a fine bolo chain, simple enough to wear alone or layered under something shorter. It is available in gold filled or sterling silver. Shop the pearl bolo necklace, $120.
Baroque pearl necklace
The baroque pearl here keeps its natural irregular shape rather than being sorted for a perfect round, which is what gives it texture against the collarbone. It reads as jewelry you would keep wearing long after the dress is packed away. Shop the baroque pearl necklace, $106.
Mother of pearl crater necklace
A textured mother of pearl disc hangs from a sterling silver chain, catching light differently depending on the angle. It is the most statement piece in the lineup without reading as costume jewelry. Shop the mother of pearl crater necklace, $198.
Keshi pearl earrings
Keshi pearls form naturally without a nucleus, so each one comes out a slightly different shape, and these earrings lean into that instead of smoothing it out. Available in gold filled or sterling silver. Shop the keshi pearl earrings, $75.
Perla earrings
Perla is the quieter drop earring in the lineup, a small pearl set close to the ear rather than swinging. It is an easy pick for a bride who wants pearls without much movement under a veil. Shop the Perla earrings, $88.
Juliette necklace
Juliette sets a cluster of smaller pearls along the chain rather than one single drop, which gives it more presence against a plain neckline. It comes in gold filled or sterling silver. Shop the Juliette necklace, $168.
