Jasmine Chong is a Malaysian Indonesian designer who launched her New York label in 2016. She studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and at Parsons School of Design, then worked with houses including Anna Sui, Thakoon, Marchesa and Tory Burch before starting her own collection. Her work draws on the dressmaking traditions she grew up around, and each collection is built as its own world, grounded in a particular place, memory or mood.
The label works mainly in silk, charmeuse, organza, taffeta and poplin, cut on the bias so a dress falls close to the body without gripping it. Pieces are produced in small quantities with specialist patternmakers and seamstresses in New York's Garment District, which keeps the design, the making and the fit in one place.
