Lara New York began in 1982 as a family business and was modernized in 2012, when a second generation of the family took over the label. It is still family owned and still works out of New York. The house is known for occasion dressing, evening gowns and dresses made for the moments around a wedding, and it builds its collections around fit first, in a size range that runs from 00 to 26.
The signature here is beadwork. Bodices and skirts are hand beaded in dense, deliberate patterns, so the light moves across a dress as the wearer does. Structure matters as much as sparkle, with built in support, considered seaming and linings that hold a silhouette through a long evening.
