Bridal clutches, bags and purses for the wedding day and reception

Théoro Flora Bag hand-cut cotton voile petals at Mae Bridal, bridal purse, bride bag, silk organza bag

A wedding day leaves no pockets, and no bride wants to hand her phone and lipstick to a bridesmaid for twelve hours. A proper bridal bag solves it: small enough to carry down the aisle, pretty enough to sit on the table at the reception, and sturdy enough to hold what you actually need. Here is what we are carrying this season, from pearl clutches to a silk organza bag built to be seen.

What makes a good wedding day bag

A wedding bag has two jobs and almost no room to do them in. It needs to hold the essentials (lipstick, a phone, a hotel key, maybe a tissue) in a shape small enough to carry comfortably through photos, a ceremony, and a reception. Most of what we carry is a true clutch or a small top handle, built in materials that read as bridal in their own right: pearl, silk, lace, and woven straw, rather than hardware or logos.

Flora Bag, Théoro

Théoro Flora Bag hand-cut cotton voile petals at Mae Bridal, bridal purse, bride bag, silk organza bag

Théoro hand cuts cotton voile into layered petals over a silk organza base, so the bag itself reads like a corsage. It is oversized enough to hold more than a clutch usually allows, and made to order in Spain. Shop the Flora Bag, $900.

Tresor Pearl Clutch, Ariel Taub

Ariel Taub Tresor Pearl Clutch at Mae Bridal, pearl clutch, bridal clutch, pearl wedding clutch

Ariel Taub's Michigan studio hand applies a cascade of Austrian pearls over an off white satin frame clutch, finished with an antique brass closure. The satin lining comes in blue or black, so it can double as your something blue. Shop the Tresor Pearl Clutch, $570.

Custom Cane Clutch With Bamboo Handle, Kimono Dragon NYC

Kimono Dragon NYC Custom Cane Clutch With Bamboo Handle at Mae Bridal, bridal clutch, wedding purse

A structured cane clutch set with resin coral branches and baroque pearls, with a removable bamboo handle and enough room for a phone. Kimono Dragon NYC works mostly in vintage and vintage-inspired costume jewelry, and this clutch brings that same color and presence to a reception bag. Shop the Custom Cane Clutch With Bamboo Handle, $435.

THE ORLA Cream Woven Straw & Shell Pearl Bead Statement Clutch Bag, Powered by People

Powered by People THE ORLA Clutch at Mae Bridal, woven straw clutch, bridal purse, wedding clutch

A woven straw clutch finished with shell and pearl beading, handmade by an independent maker through the Powered by People network. It is the most textural bag on this list, built for a reception that leans more relaxed than formal. Shop THE ORLA Clutch, $315.

Sacra Lace Bag, Jasmine Chong

Jasmine Chong Sacra Lace Bag at Mae Bridal, bridal clutch, lace wedding bag, bridal purse

Jasmine Chong, known for her bias cut silk slip dresses, made this lace bag in a limited edition of four, so it is one of the rarer pieces in the collection. It is a quiet, textural clutch for a bride who wants something delicate rather than a statement. Shop the Sacra Lace Bag, $1,025.

Magnolia, Tiana New York

Tiana New York Magnolia clutch at Mae Bridal, bridal clutch, wedding purse, bridal purse

A compact clutch from Tiana New York, sized to hold the basics without bulk. It is an easy, unfussy choice if you want a bag that will not compete with your gown. Shop the Magnolia, $170.

Bridgerton, Tiana New York

Tiana New York Bridgerton clutch at Mae Bridal, bridal clutch, wedding purse, bridal accessories

A structured clutch from Tiana New York with a slightly more formal finish than the Magnolia. Like several of the pieces in this collection, it is a Shopify Collective design that ships directly from the designer. Shop the Bridgerton, $180.

How to choose your wedding day bag

Start with what you are actually carrying. If it is a phone, lipstick, and a hotel key, a true clutch like the Magnolia or the Bridgerton will do the job. If you want room for more (a second lipstick, a mirror, a few bobby pins for a bridesmaid in a pinch) look at an oversized style like the Flora Bag.

Match the bag to your dress rather than to the trend. A clean, minimal gown can carry a textural or statement bag like THE ORLA or the Custom Cane Clutch, while a gown with a lot going on at the bodice or skirt is usually better served by something quieter, like the Tresor Pearl Clutch or the Sacra Lace Bag.

Bridal bags, answered

Do I need a separate bag for the ceremony and the reception?

Most brides use the same small clutch for both, since bridal bags are designed to be carried through a whole day of photos, the ceremony, and the reception. If you are also changing into a second look, that is usually when a second bag or a dedicated going-away style makes sense.

What should actually go inside a wedding day clutch?

Keep it to the essentials, since most bridal clutches are built small on purpose: lipstick, a phone, a hotel key or cash, and a tissue. Anything bulkier belongs with a bridesmaid or at the gift table.

Can I return a bridal bag or clutch if it's not right?

Check the individual product page, since return terms vary here by designer and by piece. Several of the bags above, including the Sacra Lace Bag, the Custom Cane Clutch, and THE ORLA, are final sale, so email team@maebridal.com before you order if you are between two styles.

Is a pearl clutch too formal for a casual wedding?

Not if the rest of your look has some ease to it. A pearl clutch like the Tresor reads formal next to a ball gown, but it softens quickly against a slip dress or a more relaxed silhouette, so let the dress decide rather than ruling pearl out on its own.
