Rouvell: the up and coming bridal designer redefining the corset wedding gown

Rouvell: the up and coming bridal designer redefining the corset wedding gown

Every season a handful of new bridal designers show up promising something different, and most of them just reshuffle the same silhouettes. Rouvell is not that. This is a corset wedding gown and ball gown wedding dress label built by people who clearly understand construction, and after six styles landed in our Santa Monica showroom, we are convinced Rouvell is the best up and coming bridal designer working right now.

Below is our full point of view on the line, plus a first look at all six gowns now made to order through Mae Bridal, our Los Angeles bridal boutique.

What makes a Rouvell corset wedding gown different

Rouvell builds every gown the way a good tailor would, from the inside out. Boning, internal corsetry, and hand draping do the structural work so the outside can stay soft, which is why a Rouvell corset wedding gown holds its shape without ever looking stiff. The fabrics lean into ivory silk satin, silk satin mikado, and brocade rather than anything synthetic, and almost every gown carries some version of a drop waist or basque waistline, the detail that elongates the torso before the skirt opens into real volume.

It is a modern vintage sensibility, romantic without being fussy, structured without being costume-y. That balance is hard to pull off, and it is exactly why we think this designer is one to watch.

The gowns

Barbara gown

Rouvell Barbara Gown in ivory satin at Mae Bridal, wedding dress ball gown, off the shoulder wedding dress

The Barbara gown is one of the easiest wedding dress ball gown shapes we carry to actually wear. Cut in ivory silk satin with a fitted bodice and a 20 inch train, the tie straps move from on the shoulder to a proper off the shoulder wedding dress, so it works for the ceremony and pulls up cleaner for the reception. Shop the Barbara gown, from $2,500.

Celine gown

Rouvell Celine Gown in ivory satin at Mae Bridal, corset wedding gown, wedding dress with train

Celine is the corset wedding gown that reads two ways at once. Draping across the bodice and soft integral sleeves frame the shoulders, the skirt runs clean over the hip in ivory silk satin, and then it opens into a sweeping train, so it looks like a sheath wedding dress from the front and something far more dramatic from behind. Shop the Celine gown, from $2,600.

Faith gown

Rouvell Faith Gown in light ivory mikado at Mae Bridal, drop waist bridal gown, corset wedding gown

Faith is our drop waist bridal gown for the bride who wants softness against all that structure. A low waisted corset with pleating and floral detail sits under a basque waistline wedding dress silhouette in light ivory silk satin mikado, before the A-line skirt opens into real volume and a sweeping train. Shop the Faith gown, from $2,000.

Adeline gown

Rouvell Adeline Gown in ivory brocade at Mae Bridal, drop waist bridal gown, wedding dress ball gown

The Adeline gown is proof that Rouvell knows how to use texture. Ivory brocade with a low waisted corset and asymmetric draping across the front sets up a deep pleated A-line skirt and train, and it is heavier to look at than it is to wear, easily the most unique wedding dress in the collection. Shop the Adeline gown, from $2,800.

Caroline gown

Rouvell Caroline Gown in ivory satin at Mae Bridal, wedding dress ball gown, off the shoulder wedding dress

Caroline is the quietest wedding dress ball gown shape in the showroom, and the one that photographs best in motion. Fitted through the bodice in ivory silk satin, full through a deeply pleated skirt with a 20 inch train, with adjustable straps that turn it into an off the shoulder wedding dress whenever you want. Shop the Caroline gown, from $2,600.

Agata gown

Rouvell Agata Gown in ivory satin and lace at Mae Bridal, mermaid wedding dress, lace bridal gowns

Agata is the mermaid wedding dress in the lineup, and it does not apologize for it. Lace across the bodice, a low waisted corset embroidered through, boning and a lace-up back hold the shape, and the skirt cuts close in the way the best lace bridal gowns do, all structure and not a bit shy about it. Shop the Agata gown, from $3,800.

Shop Rouvell at our Los Angeles bridal boutique

Rouvell gowns are made to order by the designer, available at Mae Bridal, in sizes US 2 to 16, with an estimated production lead time of 3 to 6 months. We are the stockist, not the maker, and every price includes international customs duties and shipping, so there is no surprise bill down the line. Between the corset wedding gowns, the drop waist bridal gowns, and the one proper mermaid wedding dress, this collection covers most of what a bride walks into our Santa Monica showroom looking for.

You can browse the rest of our bridal wedding gowns collection alongside Rouvell, all part of the same by-appointment, made-to-order showroom experience. Already thinking past the ceremony? Take a look at our second look wedding dresses for the reception change.

Rouvell wedding dresses, answered

What makes Rouvell one of the best up and coming bridal designers right now?

It comes down to construction and restraint. Rouvell builds real corsetry into every bodice, works almost entirely in ivory silk satin, mikado, and brocade, and leans on drop waist and basque waistline silhouettes instead of chasing trends. The result is a modern vintage wedding dress that feels structured without ever feeling like a costume.

What is a drop waist wedding dress?

A drop waist, or basque waistline, wedding dress sits below the natural waist in a V or U shape before the skirt begins. It elongates the torso and works especially well over a fitted corset bodice, which is why Faith and Adeline both use it.

How long does a made-to-order Rouvell gown take?

Every Rouvell gown carries an estimated production lead time of 3 to 6 months, the same as our other made-to-order designers. Because each piece is made to order in limited quantities, we recommend starting the process at least six to nine months out from your wedding date.

Where can I try on Rouvell wedding dresses in Los Angeles?

All six Rouvell gowns are available to try on by appointment at Mae Bridal, our bridal boutique at 145 Bay St in Santa Monica. Not local yet? We can also walk you through the collection over a live virtual shopping session from home.
